GOOD TO KNOW

How To Take Care Of Your Birds

With the proper care I can assure you a better mount. This starts in the field. Once the bird is retrieved put it somewhere out of the way so it is not stepped on, your dog gets to it or it is lying in the mud. Try to keep the feathers and wings as flat as possible so they don’t get kinked. Never hold a bird by the neck. Holding the bird by the neck may cause damage and feather loss. Always carry the bird by the feet.

The next step is to bring it to me right away so I can evaluate the bird and tell you the best possible pose. If bringing the bird to me quickly is not an option the next best thing is to wrap the feet, legs and head with VERY WET paper towels as soon as possible. Bend the head and neck gently over the body and place it in 2 large ziploc plastic bags. Never place your bird in a pantyhose. Using pantyhose will result in freezer burn if no plastic bags are used. What needs to be protected is the bird’s moisture. Place bird in a safe part of your freezer where no one can disturb it. Do not lay something on top of your bird that may cause damage. Get the bird to me as soon as possible as freezer burn is not your friend.
